It’s not simply what we do, but how we do it. 1AU relies less on a traditional problem solution mindset of inputs → outputs → outcomes → impact. Our approach starts with a circular ecosystem of five interrelated practices:
Asking Questions - In today’s world we are often preoccupied, to no fault of our own, with finding fast and immediate solutions only to find that the solutions from yesterday create new problems tomorrow. Learning to ask the right questions can guide us to more insightful answers. It compels us to pause and think more carefully.
Whole Systems Thinking - Whole systems thinking moves us away from thinking in parts and seeing the world as interrelated. It’s about shaping a more useful picture to demystify complexity and shift us from a problem-solution mindset to uncovering patterns and possibilities.
Foresight - Foresight tools allow us to embrace ambiguity and uncertainty and discover a spectrum of possibilities for the future that you WANT to see. Rather than relying solely on current and past information and knowledge, we can backcast from the future to arrive at what we need to do today.
Relational - In nature, all things are interdependent and exist in relationship to one another. As humans we are not an exception. No one person has all the right or wrong answers. Embracing diverse perspectives allows us to learn and share in abundance to co-create a new story of the future that is interconnected with all of life.
Self-Awareness - Human self-awareness allows us to uncover our biases and blind spots by illuminating our conditioning from the systems we work and live in. Deep listening within can wake us up from reacting in autopilot mode to choosing how we want to be and inter-be with the world.
